Staff Sergeant Leon Oppis flew in 35 bomber missions as a turret gunner during WWII.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by Major Jimmie Stewart and rarely spoke of his wartime experiences with his wife, Sheila pictured here.
She proudly carries this picture of her beloved husband in her wallet. All of Leon’s four brothers also served and one was a POW. They miraculously survived to be reunited with their families.
God Bless all who serve and keep us safe.
