“It is an unfortunate fact that we can secure peace only by preparing for war.”
~ President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th US president 1961-1963
My father said, “It could happen again and on U.S. soil no less” and he was right.
He passed away in 1999, just a few years before attack on the World Trade Center in New York City with the hijacking of our American planes, resulting in the loss of American civilians in their homeland.
Was it a premonition? I think not. No, it was the common sense of a soldier who had been to hell and back during WWII. He would live to see more young men sent off to Korea, Vietnam, The Gulf and Iraq. But it would have crushed this 101st Airborne veteran to live to see the attack on United States homeland. Dad believed in supporting our military defenses. If we do not secure our country and people by maintaining a strong military and a strong America, we leave ourselves wide open for further attacks and a very weak position for negotiations.
We could use another Washington, Kennedy or Reagan to bring back America and to once again represent the America that we used to offer The Pledge of Allegiance.
I pledge allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the republic for which it stands,
one nation under God,
indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all
