“Our family suffered a terrible and very personal loss in 2005.
Jason Edward Obert served in the US Army as a civilian contractor with BLACKWATER. He was a 95B military policeman and served in Korea, Saraevo, Bosnia, Hungary, Ft McClellan and Ft Carson from 1996-1999.
He was riding in a helicopter that was shot down at Baghdad Airport on April 21, 2005. It made world wide news coverage, as the people responsible filmed the whole thing. It killed 3 contractors from the island nation of Fiji, 6 BLACKWATER contractors, and the 3 man aircrew from Bulgaria. One crewman survived the crash and was summarily executed on the spot. All of this was filmed for the terrorists use as propaganda.
He was a very special young man with two adopted children, Ty who is now a sophmore and Cam who is a senior and will be going to college or OCS. Jason worked in the El Paso, Colorado Sheriff’s office. He was a father and a husband to Jess who also served in Bosnia, where they initially met. He has left many friends and family with a huge hole in our hearts and souls! He is our hero.
We are proud, all of us, including my 4 brothers and myself, having been so fortunate to have known Jason. ”
