My dad, Joe C. Andrew was with the 82nd Airborne, 508th, Hqs Company. He jumped into Holland and on D-Day and never talked about the war, except only in bits and pieces. He spent 28 years in the U.S, Army and retired as a CWO-4. Dad was part of the honor guard that stayed in Frankfurt, Germany after the war ended. My father was WWII Veteran John Louis Del Santo from Poughkeepsie, New York. He was with the Liberation Celebration in Plzen, Czechoslovakia. The Czechoslovakian people remember and honor all soldiers responsible for liberating them from the Nazi’s in 1945. I know very little of my Da’s military service. S/Sgt Waldo Werft served during WWII as a Staff/Sgt. (T-3) with the Med. Detach, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Inf. Div. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Werft was awarded The French Legion of Honor with two other Veterans on 12/19/2015 in Oro Valley, Arizona.
