NEVER FORGOTTEN, The Vietnam Veteran Fifty Years Later… “We read to know we’re not alone.” ― William Nicholson ABOUT THE BOOK: When the Vietnam Veteran’s tours were over, they came home to find a country divided and a nation unappreciative of their service. How they were treated, how they integrated back into society, and how their wartime experiences changed them are just some of the questions answered, as their stories unfold in Never Forgotten. Told by the Veterans themselves, these…..
Today we presented over 60 kindergarten children with our first military children’s book, When Daddy Comes Home with a message of love and understanding our Soldiers. Fifteen of the children had family members who served and are serving today. This included grandfathers, fathers, mothers and an uncle. They proudly called out the branches of service, Navy, Army and Marines. When I asked if they knew what our Soldiers and Veterans do, they answered, “They protect us!” There was a great…..
SSGT Benjamin Arthur Thompson, Jr. was assigned to Company D, 3rd Battalion, 47th Infantry, and 9th Infantry Division. Benjamin was my brother. He was born on July 24, 1945. Here is a picture of my husband, Joe and I. We are both out of rank in this picture and our previous ranks, Joe a Major, and me an E7. I had a soldier die before I left for Iraq. He was to be my replacement. I couldn’t make the call to talk to his wife. I wrote her a personal sympathy card. They had a baby together. He was maybe a year old. Everyone grieves in a different way……
My son, Trever Dean Gould was born on June 4, 1987 in Marshall Minnesota. After graduating high school, Trever went to WYO Tech in Wyoming and then enlisted in the Army. This is a picture of Trever and myself before he was deployed to Iraq. The other…..
My father, Bruce Jennings Turner was born on June 26, 1932 in N. Stanley, Va. He was going to school and didn’t like it. So he and a friend enlisted with the U. S. Navy when he was 19 yrs old. Norfolk, VA and was later transferred to Newport, R.I. on board a tugboat for…..
My name is Bill Graham, and I am a Vietnam Veteran. Both of my grandfathers served in WWI. My father, William Everette Graham was a 101st Airborne paratrooper during WWII. His picture was captured on the front cover of Life Magazine. This picture and others are on display with Operation Neptune in the Airborne Museum at Fayetteville, NC. My mom was a USO performer. It is with a very heavy and sad heart that I learned today about the passing of John W. Huffman, a Vietnam Veteran. John did two tours of combat in Vietnam and spent six years with the 101st Airborne and seven years with the 82nd Airborne, both great units. He was an accomplished author of over 8 books, all military related, many based on his experiences and all dedicated to the one he loved, his wife, Misty. His website is…..
I was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in May of 1967, the same town as the Smith and Wesson. I’m the only one in my immediate family that served in the military. I joined the U.S. Navy. Before entering the service, I was in high school and I worked two to three jobs, standing on my feet 10 hours a day. When I took a job downtown, I was right across from the MEPS. It filled the whole front of the…..
My name is Joe Stone and I was born in Tacoma, WA. My grandpa was a World War II veteran who served in the Pacific. He never spoke much about it, from what I’ve been told he spent all of his time on ship. I also had an uncle who served in Desert Storm. I was about 11 at the time and we would write each other back and forth while he was there. Years later after my first tour…..
