MY FATHER, MY HERO by Jennifer Lane My father is Michael Dale Lane. He served in the Army between 1966 to 1968. Dad is a Vietnam Veteran and my hero. It’s hard for him to talk about his war experience. He can only talk to me so much about it at once. I appreciate this more than you will ever know, Jenny! My dad is my world, and when other people, even other veterans thank him for his service, I…..
I was in my on little world. I am proud to say that I am married to a Ron Hurst, a Vietnam Veteran, who was my Jr. High sweetheart. He was deployed to Vietnam in August 1969 with the 196th Division, Charlie Company. This was one of the old pictures and newspaper clippings. He was so young, like the rest of them. When I think of what those poor young men went through, it breaks my heart. I now know…..
National Geographic in the February 2015 cover story takes readers through a visually striking, two-part reflection series about veterans coping with their own war beyond the battlefields. http://militari.ly/1BFx4lH “Sometimes you find yourself saying, I wish … I would have lost a body part, so people will see — so they’ll get it,” says Army First Sgt. David Griego in “Revealing the Trauma of War.” The invisible wounds of PTSD are real leaving the soldier to feel that a part of…..
My father’s family immigrated from Italy in the late 1800’s. Dad was born on December 20,1922 as Michelantonio Celestino Onofrio Vaccaro and later became known as Tony Vaccaro or Anthony A. Vaccaro. They didn’t allow soldiers to be given cameras in Europe, you had to…..

I was full of bravado and adventure. But after the Tet Offensive in 1968, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. I had no idea…..

Chris George is featured today on Comes A Soldier’s Whisper. He wanted to be stationed in Colorado, so he could hunt. But the only job available when entering service was a cook. He took the job and got deployed to Iraq in 2002. While serving chow, some soldiers from the 4th ID came through. Chris asked if they had any openings for their sniper teams. This resulted in them taking him along with the permission from his unit. He became…..
My name is Wayne Gsell, and I am a 3rd generation New Orleanian. My father and grandfather were both born in New Orleans, as well. My great grandfather, who was a cousin of Karl-Heinrich’s grandfather, came to the US from the Alpine regions of Austria and immigrated to the US in the 1850s. All of our family with the Gsell surname are related, and all come from the Alpine areas where Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and France come together. They settled…..
