I was in my on little world.
I am proud to say that I am married to a Ron Hurst, a Vietnam Veteran, who was my Jr. High sweetheart. He was deployed to Vietnam in August 1969 with the 196th Division, Charlie Company.
This was one of the old pictures and newspaper clippings. He was so young, like the rest of them. When I think of what those poor young men went through, it breaks my heart. I now know and understand.
Ron said that he tried to drown all the memories, and of course that only worked until he sobered, then he would drink some more. He said that God erased a lot of his memory, which he is very thankful for. Like all the others, when a chopper goes overhead, he stops & looks up. He fought with the VA for 20 years just trying to get the help that he deserved.
I love him so much and I told him when we got back together, I am here for you no matter what. I pray every morning that God will take away the pain in his mind and his body.
I tell him every day I love him, Always & Forever.
ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL….
God bless all of them ,
~ Janna Hurst
I can relate to what Janna wrote above, as I too was in my own little world as the young men around me were getting drafted right after our graduation in 1969. I did not understand the scope of what was actually happening. But then, we were kids, and so were our high school classmates going off to war.
We are grateful to Janna for sharing her husband’s service and invite you to share your family photos &/or stories of those who served, so we may feature and honor them on Comes A Soldier’s Whisper.
Comes A Soldier’s Whisper remembering our history and soldiers one day at a time.
God Bless all who serve and keep us safe.
