It is easy to understand how troops in combat can summon courage from deep within to win battles and protect their fellow soldiers.
Leaders in all types of organizations must also remember that ordinary people, in extraordinary circumstances, may also need to find the courage to confront troublesome situations that run counter to an organization’s values, culture and goals. If people know that their leaders will support their efforts, you will find even more of them who are willing to take the extra step to right a wrong or to go the distance that they normally wouldn’t have.
True leaders must display moral courage at the right place and time to ensure followers will follow and do what is right with the utmost confidence and courage. My 101st Airborne father served under three leaders as a radio communicator for Colonels Cole, Michaelis and Chappuis during the battles of D-Day, Carentan, Holland and the Battle of the Bulge. No doubt, these leaders set the tone for their soldier’s courageous behavior to follow and do what was right with the utmost confidence and courage. They displayed the “right stuff” during many tough situations.
This was and is most likely the case when our fathers and grandfathers, sons and daughters fought in the wars such as WWII, Korea, Vietnam, The Gulf, The Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Let us take a moment and STAND FOR OUR VETERAN SOLDIERS OF WAR with an unwavering salute of gratitude.
COMES A Soldier’s Whisper remembering history and honoring our veteran soldiers one day at a time…
