“HI LOVE” CHRIS NOEL’S TRADEMARK GREETING TO VIETNAM SOLDIERS

“Hi Love”, her trademark greeting, and one few Nam vets have forgotten.

She was the voice for veterans during the Vietnam War. Chris Noel had a singing and acting career. According to an interview, her Armed Forces Radio show was originally middle-of-the-road music, but in time she and her producer convinced “the powers that be” to switch it to Top-40.

The catalyst for Noel’s advocacy was a Christmas Day 1965 visit to a San Francisco veterans hospital with California Governor Pat Brown, baseball player Sandy Koufax and others. They visited soldiers who were double- and triple-amputees. After Chris visited the wounded soldiers in hospitals, she was forever changed and began touring to entertain the troops. She met and married and soldier, who only after 11 months of returning back to the states took his own life. Chris has committed her life to remembering and helping the veterans of the Vietnam War.

At one time, she had seven shelters in three Florida cities. Currently she has one men’s shelter in Boynton Beach, Fla., and will soon open a shelter for female veterans in West Palm Beach, Fla.
