These words were written by my father, a Screaming Eagle paratrooper with the 101st AIRBORNE DIVISION in his wartime letters sent home during 1944, letters written before, during and after the battles on D-Day, Carentan, Holland and the Battle of the Bulge.

It was a terrifying night for so many like my 101st Airborne father parachuting from the massive C-47 planes on June 6, 1944. On May 15th, there will be a special return to Normandy, France to mark 70 years since D-Day. All are welcome to come and watch the departure scheduled for 12:30.

The Whiskey Seven crew in Geneseo, New York has been getting the World War II plane prepped for the long journey with take off and landings up and down the runway where it has found a home at the National Warplane Museum. It also went up for a short flight. This very plane was one of many that dropped our paratroopers on that fateful day.

The C-47 named Whiskey Seven is an actual WWII veteran in its own right and departs for Normandy, France on May 15th. The crew is still looking for donations to help fund the trip. For more information, contact the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, New York.
