My basic training was in Fort Jackson, SC from January to May 1951.

I was 16 years old and served in Korea with the U.S. Army, 8th Infantry Division, Company D, 1st Battalion, and 28th Infantry. I served for you. God is good. During the Vietnam War, I served with the 199 LGT Infantry Brigade HQ CO 4TH and 5TH Battalion in 1969.

The son of my Great, Great Grandfather, Willis Silver was born 1833 in Brinkley, North Carolina of the Easter Indian Tribe. He was drafted into the Confederate Army and later defected and joined the Union Army during the Civil War.

The group photo shows Leonard Jackson, a Vietnam Vet on the far right. He is also the stepfather to my niece. I don’t know the name of the Vet on the far left. I am standing in the middle. The other picture is of Clara and myself. She is my long time companion, two seniors taking care of each other.

The generations of today and unlike our generations past can and will move the USA forward to be a better America for all and for the sake of our children. Keep the faith and trust in God’s love and blessings for all.
