My name is Terry, and I am an American Veteran and former Army SP/4.
I served during 1980 to 1983 in the 3/66 Armor 2nd Armored Division in Ft. Hood, Texas/AIT, Ft. Knox, Kentucky. I was a 63c Tracked Vehicle Mechanic and driver of the M-88 Recovery vehicle.
Serving my country gave me direction and purpose with being part of a team and knowing that the armor company needed our squad to be able to do its’ mission and to come and get them if need be. The only regret was not staying in as a career soldier, as my unit was later part of right hook in Desert Storm. I still ask myself, why I chose to come home instead of making it a career. It has been 20 years now.
It is a tradition in my family to serve. My grandfather served in WWII, and my father and his two brothers served in Korea. Grandpa never spoke of his war experiences. I was only 6 years old, when he passed. My cousin was deployed to Vietnam and was killed in action during 1969. My son served in Iraq.
My family believes that it is our duty as a man to serve this country’s armed forces.
Always a soldier…
~ Terry
“In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its’ hour of maximum danger. I don not shrink from this responsibility – I welcome it.”
~ John F. Kennedy
We are grateful to Robert for sharing his grandpa’s service and personal story. We invite you to share your family photos &/or stories of those who served, so we may feature and honor them on Comes A Soldier’s Whisper.
Comes A Soldier’s Whisper remembering our history and soldiers one day at a time.
God Bless all who serve and keep us safe.
