My unexpected, but much appreciated, phone call last night was from Dan Ebbole (GA).
Dan was one of my machine gunners in Vietnam. He now works part time for a conveyor installation company and travels around the nation. Dan suffers from PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ). He witnessed one of our soldiers being killed when that soldier stepped on an anti tank explosive. Dan has never recovered from that tragic incident.
He frequents the VA services for medication which he refers to as his ” Crazy Pills”. Dan is quick to tell everyone that he trusts no one but his ‘ Nam Brothers. I’ve tried to be accessible and supportive of Dan now just as I was in 1968-69 in Vietnam. My love and leadership have no expiration date when dealing with my band of brothers. Dan and I have reunited at several of our army reunions. We last connected at our 2012 St. Louis, Mo. Reunion.
I try to educate and enlighten all those who are truly interested in our Vietnam experience. The words are mine and straight from this soldier’s heart.
