Robert “Bob” Williams, Petty Officer 3rd Class Quartermaster US Navy
Charles Williams, 1st LT US Army Air Corps, 526th Fighter Bomber Sqdrn, 86th Fighter Bomber Group.
Robert serve on the LST 224 Ship as a Quartermaster in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign in 3 different campaigns. One of the was in Iwo Jima, as they arrived in Iwo Jima they were told about the 1st Flag being stood up. He got to watch from his ship with binoculars the original Iwo Jima Flag being stood up. Robert was awarded with the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal with 3 bronze stars, American Campaign medal, WWII Victory medal, Iwo Jima commemorate medal. After the war Robert pursued his dream as an artist. He started to do art work on coffee mugs and paintings.
He got to do some art work for John Wayne and ended up working for John Wayne for 16 years making and painting coffee mugs for him in California. He met his wife in California and they have been married for 68 years. He and his wife left California in 1964 and moved to Mount Vernon, Washington were he and his wife still live. At 90 years old and after many years of painting and making special coffee mugs, his eye site was going. So today he has an Art Studio where he sells his paintings in Mount Vernon, Washington called Bob Williams Painting.
His brother Charles serve in the US Army Air Corp in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign as a bomber pilot. He was Killed in Action on 10 Dec 1944 in Italy where he was shot down. On 1 Jan 1945 his brother receive a telegram that Charles was Killed in Action. Charles was one hell of a pilot and was on many bombing missions. On one of his missions he had to make an emergency landing and was captured and became a POW. He was released and went back to bombing until he was shot down in Italy.
Charles was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, Purple Heart, Air Medal with 3 clusters, POW medal, African Middle Eastern Campaign medal and the WWII Victory medal.
In 2013 Robert Williams had Anything American Custom Military Shadow Boxes to put together a shadow box, one on him and his brother. The brothers never received there medals from WWII.
