LT. Walter J. Gunter, Jr. was Jump Master 61, 101st Airborne, 506th PIR Company D, XO of Dog Co, and was killed in action in St Mere Eglise.

After his jump, he became caught in a tree. A machine gunner shot him from The Church Steeple about 40 minutes before John Steele and the 82nd arrived. He is buried at the American Cemetery Colleville sur Mer, in Normandy France.

Our family has over 200 letters from Walter beginning with his training at Toccoa to June 3, 1944, three days until his Eternal Jump.
