“My name is Greg Catherwood, and I am a Vietnam Veteran.
I was in the infantry in Vietnam during 1969 and 1970. It was a rough roe to hoe, but I got through it. I have an Infantry MOS. When I got to Vietnam in 69, I Joined The The Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol; The LRRPs/ I Company 75th 75th Airborne Rangers. We Were A Detachment Of The 1st Infantry Division ( The Big Red One). All The Men In this group picture are all Vietnam Veterans. We were all in a Ranger/ LRRP Unit. I am in the front row, third from left.
What really hurt was coming home. It was a bad welcome, especially in California with the damn war protestors. Later came the self medicating years with some people saying behind your back, “What’s the matter with him?” I shunned people and couldn’t handle crowds.
I finally found a group of veterans ten years ago through the VA. We could all visit and talk about combat and our experiences in Vietnam. It has helped. I finally got some compensation for PTSD. I also have cancer from Agent Orange. I try to stay positive, but sometimes it is hard to do…”

Some may come and some may go
We shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
