THE AMERICAN SOLDIER
He asks for nothing except our support,
for his family in case he dies.
He may not always meet our goals,
but we know damned well he tries.
America has always produced such men,
and today they are still involved,
in keeping the enemy from our doors,
though the problems seem never solved.
So when you meet one face to face,
don’t compromise on a great big smile.
And tell him that you really know,
He’s walking the extra mile
~ Vince Speranza
101st Airborne Division
WWII
Vincent Speranza, a 101st Airborne paratrooper veteran from WWII, wrote this poem on the plane coming home from the 40th annual D-Day remembrance in Conneaut, Ohio in August, 2014. It made his heart sing, after so many people who were perfect strangers, greeted him with such big smiles and appreciation for his service to our country. God Bless you Vincent Speranza for your service!
Comes A Soldier’s Whisper remembers and honors our hero veterans of the past and present.
