For starters, you are a PROUD AMERICAN, a veteran soldier or have ancestors who gave their service to the United States of America. Stand tall and stand proud!
FOLD3.com is a wonderful website with a premier collection of military records. Fold3 provides convenient access to US military records, including the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served.
The Fold3 name comes from a traditional flag folding ceremony in which the third fold is made in honor and remembrance of veterans who served in defense of their country and to maintain peace throughout the world.
Original records at Fold3 help you discover and share stories about these everyday heroes, forgotten soldiers, and the families that supported them. You can combine records found on the site with what you have in your own albums and shoeboxes to create an online memorial for someone who served. We took this a bit further by publishing Dad’s wartime letters which sat in a large hat box for many years. The letters now have a final resting place in COMES A SOLDIER’S WHISPER, letters leading to love, honor and sacrifice for his country with sentiments resonating with our soldiers of today.
For example, I added the medical records to a Fold3 memorial for my 101st Airborne father, David Tharp’s two wounds from the European Theatre Campaign during WWII.
Perhaps by revisiting and honoring our past, it helps us to understand others and ourselves a bit more in the process.
“You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.”
~ Desmond Tutu
