I had the pleasure of meeting David Garbe and his son at the Geneseo Air Show last weekend standing with pride in front of their restored F-4 Phantom jet which flew on many missions in VIETNAM. The father and son purchased the nose of an F-4 Phantom jet 8 years ago from a scrapyard outside of The Bone Yard, an aerospace maintenance and regeneration center in Arizona where old military jets are stored. The Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. They transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. The Honor Flight Network of Rochester had a large tent welcoming our WWII Veterans to the annual air show at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, New York this past weekend. This photo was taken with my 101st Airborne father holding the bronze plaque gifted to him and many others in gratitude by the Belgian people after The Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. The plaques were artfully crafted from melting down spent artillery shells. The Stars And Stripes News reported the Airborne paratrooper landings in Holland of September 22, 1944. While parachuting to earth, photographer Herb Palmer took the picture of paratroopers drifting in the sky. Pfc. Rinaldo Angelini is barely visible to the far left with Cpl. Carl H. Our 101st Airborne paratrooper father came back from WWII with his copy of The Epic of the 101st Airborne, a beautiful pictorial biography of the United States 101st Airborne Division, compiled and arranged by the unit Public Relations Office in Auxerre, France 1945. The book depicts the European battle campaigns of Normandy, Holland and the Battle of the Bulge, all of which the 101st Airborne participated.
